What Can You Eliminate?

I've been reflecting on a remixed version of an AED - Automate, Eliminate, Delegate - as a way to restore rhythm and reduce burnout in business or ministry.

Today, I'm asking a bold question:

What can I eliminate?

Not everything that fills my calendar is essential. Sometimes, the most strategic move isn't to optimize or delegate. It’s to say, “I'm not doing this anymore.”

But how do I know what to let go of?

This is a difficult and sensitive question. Here are some signs I choose to reflect on:

It no longer serves my mission or values: I started it with good intentions, but it no longer fits where I'm headed.

I'm the only one keeping it alive: If I stopped showing up, no one would notice or miss it.

I'm doing it out of guilt, not conviction: Obligation, fear of letting others down, or habit - not mission - is driving it.

Meditation Moment

What am I holding onto because it’s familiar?

In the wise words of Solomon there is “A time to keep and a time to throw away.” — Ecclesiastes 3:6 (NIV) What emotions are stirred up when I picture eliminating something that has had it's time?

My Next Action

I'm going to review to my list of work tasks and ask myself if any of these tasks check off two or more of the above signs.

If the answer to that is yes, I will pause that task for just one week and note what opens up in my schedule and the setbacks, fears or emotions that may arise.

I’m thankful for your time and trust, Reader. If you found this helpful or want to learn more about how Edens View can support you, contact us by replying directly to this email.
