What Can You Delegate?
|
|
|
In my continued reflection on the remixed AED - Automate, Eliminate, Delegate - today I'm exploring the final question:
What can I delegate?
Delegation isn't just about handing off responsibilities, it's about expanding your capacity. It's a way of saying: I don’t have to do everything for this to get done well.
But how do I know what can be delegated?

Here are a few signs:
✅ I'm the bottleneck: Things sit on my desk (or in my mind) for days, even though someone else could move them forward. ✅ It doesn’t require my unique voice or expertise: I'm great at it, but I'm not the only one who could do it. ✅ It’s keeping me from higher-value work: I'm stuck in the weeds instead of leading, creating, or connecting. ✅ Someone else is qualified take it on: There’s someone on my team who's trainable, and maybe even better suited for it.

Where am I carrying more than I need to, and what would it mean to trust others with part of the load? |

Choose one task I've been holding onto and...
- Determine who this task can be delegated to.
- Arrange a time to train them on the task.
- Explore what support they may need to successfully take over.
